Biography

Katherine graduated from Aston University, Birmingham in 1995 and undertook pharmacy pre-registration training at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.  After basic grade training in Chelmsford, Essex she completed an MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance (University of Leeds) whilst working as a clinical nutrition and technical support pharmacist at Colchester General Hospital.  During this time Katherine gained a broad experience of general surgical wards.

Following appointment as a lecturer-practitioner in 2002 (a joint post working for University of Essex and Colchester General Hospital) Katherine undertook the diploma in clinical pharmacy practice (University of London) and certificate in higher education practice (University of Essex).  During this time she was module lead for the Non-Medical prescribing programmes, working within the Department of Health and Human Sciences - an environment of inter-professional learning.  Katherine developed an interest in aspects of prescribing support and her clinical remit during this period was working predominantly with care of the elderly patients.

Current Posts

Katherine’s current focus within Addenbrooke’s is implementation and maintenance of the clinical supervision programme for band 6 pharmacists and implementation of peer review.  Working within the local education and training team she is involved in tutoring of pharmacy staff participating in various training and supporting general level diploma tutors within the Trust.

As an associate director for JPB programmes, her patch is currently Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridge and Essex and includes a range of training centres ranging from specialist centres, teaching hospitals and district general hospitals.  The programme is also attracting attention from primary care within the region.  The role includes acting as a link between higher education, the NHS and post reg JPB programmes – supporting the training centres and supporting UEA in delivery of the programme.
