Biography

Hilary Pearmain has spent most of her working life in community pharmacy. After completing her pre-registration year with Boots the Chemists she then worked as a relief manager covering an area from Elephant & Castle in London to Haywards Heath in Sussex.  Hilary then moved to Letchworth Garden City in Hertfordshire where she worked as manager of a Savory and Moore branch until the birth of her first child. There then follow a long period of self-employment as a community pharmacy locum. Hilary completed a post-graduate Certificate in Community Pharmacy from University of Derby and later followed this with a PG Diploma in Clinical Community Pharmacy from Bradford University. More recently she has worked as a pharmaceutical consultant and as a pharmaceutical adviser. Hilary is also the CPPE tutor for Bedfordshire.

Current Posts

Hilary is currently on a 2 year secondment to the Joint Programmes Board with the remit of trying to develop a new post-graduate diploma programme for community pharmacists. We are currently in the process of reviewing the current diploma curriculum for its relevance to community pharmacy, identifying the gaps and trying to add in the required elements that are needed. We are working with community pharmacy employers to ensure that the new programme will be 'fit for purpose'.

Hilary currently shares her working time between the JPB and East & North Hertfordshire Primary Care Trust where she is employed in the Pharmacy & Medicines Management team.To keep really busy she also works occasionally as a community pharmacy locum to ensure that she maintains a realistic outlook on community pharmacy. This helps with her role as CPPE tutor for Bedfordshire where she provides 5 workshops a year for pharmacists and registered pharmacy technicians.
