Using Blackboard for the First Time

Blackboard facilitates the presentation and organisation of material into courses for delivery via the www. You will have been enrolled in particular courses and will see those courses as available when you enter the system. In addition to delivering material it also enables announcements to be made to the members of a course and provides an entry point for emailing between individuals and groups within a course.

Using Blackboard for the first time.

Login to Blackboard

Open the Blackboard site login page. (Its address is http://blackboard.pharmacy.ac.uk ) It will look like the image on the right. The link will open a second window for Blackboad, this one should continue open. You will have been sent a user name and password. Click the User Login button and enter them in the appropriate text boxes in lower case. Click Login.

If your login is successful you will see a screen similar to the one below.

You will see some extra content boxes (additional tutorial material and other advertising from Blackboard) - these can safely be removed by clicking the red X at the top right of each until the screen looks less cluttered and more like the one above. The modify content and modify layout links centre right in the image above, control what you see, what colours and where it appears - you can modify these as you wish.

Change your Password:

Use Tools->Personal Information->Change Password to change your password to something that you will find easy to remember. (There are no restrictions on size or characters). Check that your email is correct in your Personal Information section field. This is the email address that Blackboard will be using to send email to you.

Your Course:

The link on the right in the box titled My Courses will take you into your Diploma Course where you will find the course material. Tutors will see an extra course 'Tutors' course in addition to teaching courses. Once you have selcted the course a menu on the left takes you the different sections of the course.
