Some of the information here may differ according to how tutors are trained and supported in different JPB localities.  Please check with your local Associate Director or course administrator to find out more about tutor support in your area.

The JPB Lead for Tutor Support

This is Barry Jubraj, who has been seconded to work for the JPB one-and-a-half days per week since January 2008.  He is happy to be contacted by email or phone to discuss any tutor support issues that you may have.  His remit is to support local training centres in the area of tutor support, in conjunction with the local Associate Director.  Click here to find out more about Barry, and his contact details.

The Joint Programmes Board has a number of strategies for supporting DipGPP Lead Trust Tutors, Practice Tutors and Educational Facilitators in running the programme locally:

1. Registering as a JPB Practice Tutor or Educational Facilitator

All Practice Tutors and Educational Facilitators should register with the JPB.  This will allow them access to Blackboard resources and ensure they receive the JPB newsletter and any other important information updates.  To register, or to update your details with the JPB, please use the following form:

2. A Start Up Guide to Tutoring and Supporting Work-based Learning

This document is designed to provide guidance for Practice Tutors and Educational Facilitators at accredited hospitals in the London JPB region.  The document is not exhaustive but will provide valuable support and clarity on where to find further information.   Also note that the contents of this document are subject to change with developments in the programme and updated versions will be released in due course.

We would advise all Practice Tutors, Educational Facilitators and Lead Trust Tutors to read this document in full and then complete the checklist provided on pages 19 and 20.

The document can be accessed through the link below:

3. Formal Tutor Training

Three half-day training sessions are offered by the JPB Lead for Tutor Support.  Most sessions are run at the JPB offices in Russell Square, central London, or in your JPB locality.  However, it may be possible to deliver sessions locally for the convenience of a single training centre or groups of training centres.  The JPB admin team advertise sessions through emails to Lead Trust Tutors and announcements on the Blackboard virtual learning tool.  This site and the JPB website will be updated to inform you when sessions are fully booked or have spaces

Each session that is attended and evaluated will attract a certificate of attendance.  These can provide part of the evidence for meeting requirements of the Advanced and Consultant Level Framework (ACLF) and the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF).  These sessions are named resources in the JPB's Advanced Practice programme.

4. Informal "Question & Answer" Session Delivered Locally

A number of Training Centres have invited their local Associate Director and/or the JPB Lead for Tutor Support to come and talk with staff informally about the DipGPP Programme.  These sessions are proving to be very popular if sufficient numbers of participants can be released for up to two hours.  An example of the structure of a Q&A session is as follows and click here to view the briefing that is used:

  • Briefing for participants
  • Break into groups to flipchart questions about the DipGPP programme, concerns and support
  • DipGPP resources
  • Open discussion
  • Extra 30 minute session on self-directed learning (optional - please discuss your requirements when making your request)

JPB would recommend this training option for new Training Centres or for hospitals that plan to provide the Diploma in the near future.  They can also be very helpful if staff in an exisiting Training Centre feel 'stuck' or needs some practical ideas in setting up educational infrastructure to help the programme work better.  If you'd like to hold a Q&A session at your hospital then please contact admin@jpbsoutheast.org with your request.

5. Shared Resources Provided by Individual Training Centres

One of the most helpful aspects of tutor support is the opportunity for Training Centres to share what they are doing locally.  The Blackboard system has a section where Lead Trust Tutors can offer, and also look, for strategies and tools produced locally to run the DipGPP programme.  The JPB Lead for Tutor Support reviews and maintains this site to ensure relevance, and many Training Centres have found ideas that are useful to them.  Lead Trust Tutors are invited to send material that might be helpful for other Training Centres to Barry Jubraj.

To find this information, log onto Blackboard, click on "Tutor Information and Resources" tab, then click on "example material".
